NSD Play : Koi Baat Chale...a romantic comedy

Play: Koi Baat Chale
Playwright & Director: Ram Ji Bali
Group: Theatrewala, Faridabad, Haryana
Language: Hindi
Duration: 1 hr 40 mins

Koi Baat Chale is a play that tells the story of the lives, complexities, failures and small joys of simple ordinary people, which in a certain sense, are not so small at all. For me, this is a tragic-comedy. I am quite influenced by Chekov and it is possible that you may find echoes of his or Dostoevsky’s characters in the play. Finally, this is a love story that is not comic in any way.

The Play
Koi Baat Chale, a romantic comedy, revolves around the protagonist Kanhiya Lal Bansi Prasad. He is thirty-five years old, unmarried, and is a drama teacher in school. The play shows Bansi seeking the services of a marriage bureau to help him find a suitable life partner. Searching for his soul mate, Bansi meets Supriya while entering the same marriage bureau that he has approached. Greatly attracted to her, he describes her to Pyare Lal, the owner of the bureau, when asked about his preferences, making a special mention of the beautiful black mole on the left cheek right below the ear, similar to what he had seen on Supriya's face.
Pyare Lal introduces Bansi to many girls with a mole on their cheek, except Supriya. Bansi, who has set his heart on marrying Supriya, rejects all candidates and finally decides to propose to her. How Bansi expresses his feelings to Supriya is what Koi Baat Chale is all about.

The Playwright & Director
Ram Ji Bali started his career in theatre in 1993. From 1994 to 1996, he was involved with a two-year course in acting at Sri Ram Center for Performing Arts, Delhi. Simultaneously, he was busy participating and directing plays such as Bichchu, Proposal, Ek Ladki Paanch Diwaane, Dulari Bai, Ghade Ki Baaraat, Inspector Matadin Chand Par, Chatur Rohan, Muaavze etc.

He joined the NSD Repertory Company in 1997-1998, and completed his graduation in acting from NSD in 2001. Since then, he has been working as a freelance actor/director in the field of arts and performance.

Bali has also been associated with tele-serials and movies such as Paan Singh Tomar, Khosla Ka Ghosla, 9/11 The Last Fall, The Search, and a National Award winning Kannada movie, Chigguri The Kansu. He has scripted many plays including Nalanda, Koi Baat Chale, Mujhse Pehli Si Mohabbat Mere Mehboob Na Maang, Ghulam Radharani Ke, Sarat Chandra - Ek Awaara Masiha, amongst others.

The Play

The performance begins with the celebration of Durga Puja, followed by the famous story of Mahishasur

a woman. Mahishasur goes about causing atrocities on women and society and gathering power unto
himself. The peace loving gods are attacked by Mahishasur’s vicious army. The trinity consisting of
Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and the three elements consisting of fire, water and air churn their positive
energies and create a mighty female warrior ‘Shree Durga’. Shree Durga builds a female army to combat
Mahishasur. In a mighty combat Shree Durga twangs her bow with energetic potent power by which
Mahishasur’s army is devoured. The world rejoices in the slaying of Mahishasur. Yet another demon in
the form of Raktabeej arrives. Every drop of Raktabeej’s blood makes myriad’s of clones. Kali swallows
the blood drops before they fall on the ground. A dehydrated Raktabeej collapses and dies. Kali, drunk on
the success of her killings dances incessantly. Lord Shiva himself has to descend on the path of her war

NSD Play: GHAZAB TERI ADAA

New Delhi, May 16, : National School of Drama’s nine-day theatre event ‘Nepal Sadbhavna Natya Aayojan’ started off in capital from today. The event has been organized by NSD with the support of performing arts fraternity, to show solidarity towards Nepal’s earthquake victims and raise funds for them. The funds generated from the event will go to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Tourism & Culture (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Civil Aviation inaugurated the Nepal Sadbhavna Natya Aayojan

in the presence of H. E. Mr. Deep Kumar Upadhyay, Ambassador of Nepal and Prof. Waman Kendre, Director, National School of Drama. The inaugural ceremony was followed by the play, “Ghazab Teri Adaa”, directed by Prof Waman Kendre, by NSDRepertory Co.

The nine-day event will showcase 12 productions and will go on till 24th May, 2015

Play: GHAZAB TERI ADAA

Director:Prof. WamanKendre

Language:Hindi

Duration: 1 hour 40 min

The Play
Ghazab Teri Adaa is inspired by Aristophanes’ Lysistrata. The action of the play takes place in an imaginary time and place. It revolves around the never ending aspiration for the expansion of kingdom and is a constant battle for the continuous fights in the battle field. The groups of performers make the king aware about the future of the war. The fearful king rejects to see and understand the situation. All the women, with fear and pain get together to stop the war under the leadership of Laya. They think of various alternatives to stop the war and finally decide that they will not allow their husbands to maintain any physical contact with them until the war stops. The violence-appreciating king and his war-loving soldiers break down in front of this unique, peaceful and non-violent protest by the women.

 the name of war

the global scenario, especially in the last two decades, in the name of war saddened me. The central idea of the play i.e. the revolt of the women folk against the king’s ambition of ruling the world and emerging as a supreme power, led to the initiative of creating a new play. Gender equality is another important aspect of the play. Even after sixty five years of independence, the women reservation bill has not been passed in the Indian parliament.

The form of dialogue is poetic, as this play is stylized, not realistic. The language is guided by gender. In various rural dialects of the country, women often speak like men. There is no room for women in the language. Specially, in the plural construct the language remains masculine. While speaking the gender dignity shatters. Besides the narrative style, the audience will experience a varied audio-visual design.

The Fashion show where mom and kids walked the ramp draping in the latest summer collection— portrayed in a hip avatar reemphasizing the fact that mothers can be fashionable too. All three celebrities walked down the ramp in the Western and ethnic wear of Max along with their kids— showcasing the latest trends this summer.

Max’s summer collection overwhelmingly addresses the desire for self-expression, balance and the need to re-energise, thereby complimenting every aspect of a fashionista’s pulsating lifestyle, latest collections and the season’s hottest trends across clothing, accessories and footwear.

“Max clothing has a great variety of fun and summery clothing for the entire family this season. My son and me had a great fun walking the ramp in Max clothes,” said Mandira Bedi.

The summer collection for women is all about subtle floral, tribal, tropical prints, and motifs inspired by a range of ethnicity, which spell élan this season with women’s western and ethnic wear.

“I exclusively love the Max clothing summer range. It’s comfortable, fun and cool. We as a family often wear it as it's as great wear for kids, dads and moms too,”
